2013 NHL Final Draft Rankings

16. RW Valentin Zykov Baie-Comeau Drakkar
Date of Birth: May 15, 1995 Height: 6.01 Weight: 210 Shot: Right

Zykov is a powerful winger who asserts himself on the ice and drives lanes with the puck. Possesses excellent strength on his skates and shows a consistent willingness to take the puck to the net where his quick release and heavy shot make him a formidable goal scorer. Zykov needs to continue to improve his in-game awareness as the game does not come naturally to him at times, but the potential is there for him to be a great pick at this point in the draft.

17. D Josh Morrissey Prince Albert Raiders
Date of Birth: March 28, 1995 Height: 6.00 Weight: 185 Shot: Left

Reliable defender who has logged heavy minutes thus far in his WHL career... Morrissey is a refined offensive defenseman with strong acumen for the game and a plus offensive skill-set... A smooth skater, Morrissey is comfortable skating the puck and has good agility and edgework which project well to the next level... A lack of optimal size and some holes in his defense are cause for concern that could ultimately resign him to being a 'tweener', but his offensive upside and willingness to compete are attractive commodities in this range.

18. LW Anthony Mantha Val D'or Foreurs
Date of Birth: September 16, 1994 Height: 6.03 Weight: 200 Shot: Left

Saw a major breakout season going from 22 goals in 2011-12 to 50 this year en route to an 89 point season... Mantha presents a very intriguing combination of size and scoring ability as the 6-foot-4 winger has the ability to simply dominate when he's on... Consistency remains a major concern with his game as the effort level lags at times and he is very prone to being unengaged... Skating stride is somewhat unorthodox and he will need to add some quickness moving forward.

19. C Max Domi London Knights
Date of Birth: March 2, 1995 Height: 6.00 Weight: 185 Shot: Left

Supremely skilled forward who has added a level of dynamic play to his game this year... Undersized but has a stocky frame that holds up well against physical contact... Consistently shows a dazzling array of puck skills and an increasing willingness to shoot the puck... Not afraid to go to the difficult areas on the ice and does a good job of getting under player's skin and competing shift in and out... Some risk with how his game projects but a team might be willing to step up early and take a chance on him.

20. C Bo Horvat London Knights
Date of Birth: April 5, 1995 Height: 6.00 Weight: 195 Shot: Left

Comes into the draft having been named the OHL Playoff MVP and appearing in his second consecutive Memorial Cup with the London Knights... Cerebral centre who has versatility and can be used in a variety of roles... Has a stocky frame and very average skating ability but does a great job of staying involved in the play and capitalizing on any opportunity he creates on the ice... We're not sold that his compete level is as high as some make it out to be but still see him as having potential as a 2nd or 3rd line centre.

21. C Curtis Lazar Edmonton Oil Kings
Date of Birth: February 2, 1995 Height: 6.00 Weight: 198 Shot: Right

Like Horvat, Lazar is a solid all-around player whose all-around play makes up for his lack of flair... Is a capable goal scorer with an NHL calibre release and above-average offensive instincts... Proven to be a reliable player without the puck who can handle match ups against opposition top lines... While we believe his ceiling may be lower than some of the players in front of him, he has the potential to be an effective Top 9 player.

22. LW Morgan Klimchuk Regina Pats
Date of Birth: March 2, 1995 Height: 5.11 Weight: 185 Shot: Left

Flew under the radar playing on a weak Regina team this year... Tremendous skater with excellent acceleration and skating ability with the puck... Shows an ability to beat defense off the rush as well as cutting into the lane to open up offensive opportunities whether it's a shot or a passing lane... Rarely takes a shift off and played a determined game all year even with limited support... Could wind up being a steal in this draft.

23. LW Kerby Rychel Windsor Spitfires
Date of Birth: October 7, 1994 Height: 6.01 Weight: 200 Shot: Left

Was a tale of two seasons for Rychel as his game sagged early before flourishing with the return of Boston prospect Alexander Khohklachev... Plays a pro style game and finds ways to score despite having a modest skill level... Laboured early in his career with skating but has made progress in that regard thus far... Has the ability to dominate games with his board play and puck possession game but also looks content to be a passenger at times.

24. LW Arturri Lehkonen Kalpa
Date of Birth: July 4, 1995 Height: 5.10 Weight: 165 Shot: Left

Slight winger lacks size and strength but makes up for it with outstanding hockey sense and puck skills... Very creative playmaker who thrives with the puck while showing strong ability to create space for himself... Could stand to shoot the puck more when he has the opportunity... Skating is adept at this point but he needs to add explosiveness to get by at his size... Lack of strength is evident as he is often exposed in puck battles... Well worth a pick in this range for a team willing to be patient with his development.

25. D Mirco Mueller Everett Silvertips
Date of Birth: March 21, 1995 Height: 6.04 Weight: 185 Shot: Left

Big-time riser who checks in at #25 after being slotted at #47 in our Mid-Term Rankings... Lanky Swiss defender shows great role awareness and projects to be an effective shut-down defenseman... Has excellent feet for a big man and does well with lateral transitions, defensive zone coverage, and gap control... Shows some skill with the puck and projects to be an adept puck mover with an ability to chip in offensively.

26. G Zachary Fucale Halifax Mooseheads
Date of Birth: May 28, 1995 Height: 6.01 Weight: 175 Shot: Left

Had one of the top seasons of a draft eligible goaltender in recent memory, winning the QMJHL Title and Memorial Cup with Halifax... Lanky goaltender has a calm net presence and solid butterfly mechanicals that allow him to make first saves and be in good position for rebounds... Needs to continue to add strength to make difficult athletic saves... Can be prone to cheat occasionally but that should be worked out with continued coaching.

27. C Jimmy Lodge Saginaw Spirit
Date of Birth: March 5, 1995 Height: 6.02 Weight: 170 Shot: Right

Comes into the draft after an exceptional second half to the season which culminated in 28 goals and 67 points to his name... Explosive skater who has a very underrated offensive skill0-set... Quality playmaker who has shown inviting signs of a scoring touch... Desperately needs to add strength to his frame and show an increased willingness to sacrifice his body against bigger defensemen... A risky pick in this range, but a player we believe has the upside to potentially be a Top 6 player in the NHL.

28. C Pavel Buchnevich Cherepovets 2
Date of Birth: April 17, 1995 Height: 6.00 Weight: 165 Shot: Left

Native of Cherepovets, Russia persevered through an injury this season to really come on as the season progressed... Has had two straight seasons of productivity in the MHL before seeing KHL action this year with his hometown team... Very effective playmaker who shows enticing offensive upside and polish on the ice... Is very confident with the puck and always has an idea of whether he wants to shoot or make a pass... Was excellent with Team Russia at the Under 18's where he proved himself as one of the top forwards in the tournament.

29. D Samuel Morin Rimouski Oceanic
Date of Birth: July 17, 1995 Height: 6.06 Weight: 203 Shot: Left

Mammoth defenseman started to realize his potential after encountering some growing pains in his rookie season a year ago... Defensive game is still developing as he shows flashes of physical dominance with improvement required in his stick checking, positioning, and picking his spots... Very smooth skater for his size as he also possesses above average acceleration and edgework... Likely will be molded into more of a defense first player but he does possess some offensive upside... Will likely go higher come draft day as his combination of size and upside will be difficult to pass up to this point.

30. C Laurent Dauphin Chicoutimi Saugeens
Date of Birth: March 27, 1995 Height: 6.00 Weight: 165 Shot: Left

Like Lodge, Dauphin really came on as the season progressed before having his coming out party on the national stage as the MVP of the Top Prospects Game... Won't overwhelm you with a dynamic skill-set but consistently is willing to outwork the opposition and compete every shift... Crafty player who excels with puck possession and breaking down the defense with sustained offensive zone pressure... Skating and strength need to improve for him to become an NHL player but assuming that's the case, he has the potential to be a player.
