2013 NHL Final Draft Rankings

61. RW Oliver Bjorkstrand Portland Winterhawks
Date of Birth: April 10, 1995 Height: 5.11 Weight: 166 Shot: Right

Undersized winger was a key component of Portland's success this year as a 31-goal scorer in his first WHL season... Has an excellent release on his snapshot with finishing skills that project well to the NHL level... Shooting ability is maximized on the PP as he is a great option along the wall for backdoor shooting lanes... Adept skater who is comfortable skating with the puck and capable of making plays... Needs to do a better job of making an impact every shift.

62. RW Michael McCarron USA U-18
Date of Birth: March 7, 1995 Height: 6.05 Weight: 228 Shot: Right

Imposing forward has a mammoth frame that allows him to take over games when he's on due to his sheer size and strength... At 6-foot-5, McCarron has good athleticism and does not labour on the ice with his skating... Progressed as the year went on before making a decent impact at the U18's... Game is still a bit cumbersome overall as he really needs to develop more of an identity whether its as a scorer or a dominating power forward.

63. D Jordan Subban Belleville Bulls
Date of Birth: March 3, 1995 Height: 5.09 Weight: 175 Shot: Right

Subban's family story has been well documented as it will add another chapter at the 2013 NHL Draft... Undersized defenseman has a outstanding offensive skill-set and is one of the top puck carrying defensemen in the draft... Has become a great weapon on the PP with his reads and reaction as well as a deceptive shot... Biggest hole is his unwillingness to engage in physical play... Prefers to let others get the puck for him rather than working for it himself... Could potentially hear his name earlier in Round 2.

64. G Eamon McAdam Waterloo Blackhawks
Date of Birth: September 24, 1994 Height: 6.02 Weight: 188 Shot: Left

Formed the top draft-eligible goaltending duo with Cal Petersen in Waterloo this year... Penn State commit has good size and net presence, doing a great job of squaring up shooters and taking up the net... Plays a very traditional butterfly taking away the lower half of the net while allowing his size to mitigate the angles for high shots... Slightly above average lateral agility but will need to improve his rebound control on second chance opportunities.

65. RW Nick Sorensen Quebec Remparts
Date of Birth: October 23, 1994 Height: 6.01 Weight: 175 Shot: Right

Has really struggled with injuries with Quebec which have limited him to only 54 regular season games in 2 years... Above average skater with good explosiveness and sustained speed with the ability to take guys wide... Responsible two-way winger who is good in his own end and understands coverage lanes... Fairly average creativity... Showed well in the playoffs with 7 goals but needs to produce on a more consistent basis.

66. D Wilhelm Westlund Frjestad
Date of Birth: March 15, 1995 Height: 5.11 Weight: 184 Shot: Left

Spent extensive time in the SHL this year with Farjestad albeit only playing depth minutes in Sweden's top league... Plays a very polished game for a 95 YOB, showcasing above average skating and lateral agility... Won't overwhelm you with a defining skill and has limited holes in his game... Overall upside is a bit of a concern but he has the ability to be a #4/5.

67. D Mitchell Wheaton Kelowna Rockets
Date of Birth: February 6, 1995 Height: 6.04 Weight: 228 Shot: Left

First year WHL defenseman is a long-term project who made some considerable strides this year as the season wore on... Has a massive frame that really clogs up the defensive zone allowing him to get into shooting lanes where he shows no fear of blocking shots... Really needs to improve his skating as his stride is choppy and first few steps lack acceleration... Game with the puck is still developing but he shows an ability to make the proper reads and advance the puck... Potential based selection but he has the ability to be a shutdown guy one day.

68. C John Hayden USA U-18
Date of Birth: February 14, 1995 Height: 6.03 Weight: 210 Shot: Right

Stocky Yale commit brings an intriguing combination of size and skill... Excellent cycle based forward who keeps his feet moving and is difficult for the opposition to contain due to his large stature... At his best below the hashmarks, Hayden is willing to stand in front of the net and sacrifice his body in a physically punishing scoring area... Skating needs to improve for him to make an impact at the pro level... We see Hayden having a real chance one day as his competitiveness should allow him to play a number of different roles.

69. G Spencer Martin Mississauga Steelheads
Date of Birth: June 8, 1995 Height: 6.02 Weight: 198 Shot: Right

Had high hopes this season and impressed early before really labouring through the second half of the year... Has an excellent frame to be an NHL goaltender with a butterfly style... One of the most competitive goaltenders in the draft in terms of challenging shooters on the white ice... Mental Toughness is a major concern with Martin as he seems to inexplicably struggle at points in games where he was unable to recover.

70. LW Emile Poirier Gatineau Olympiques
Date of Birth: December 14, 1994 Height: 6.01 Weight: 183 Shot: Left

Late birthday '94 took a major step forward in his 2nd QMJHL season, leading Gatineau with 32 goals and 70 points... Very solid two-way forward with above average skating despite a bit of a long, awkward stride... Excels as a shooter as well as a playmaker and his shot looks like it will continue to improve... Displays some grit and could be a player that a team steps up on in Round 2.

71. RW Gregory Chase Calgary Hitmen
Date of Birth: January 1, 1995 Height: 6.00 Weight: 195 Shot: Right

2nd year winger improved his production while bringing a 'pesty' demeanor that really makes him a valuable player... Creative playmaker who really lacks a natural scoring touch... Does a great job of getting his body on players and initiating contact even if they're not earth shattering hits... Lacks high-end upside but his tenacity and grit will give him a great opportunity to crack the NHL as a bottom 6 player.

72. C Vincent Dunn Val'Dor Foreurs
Date of Birth: September 14, 1995 Height: 5.11 Weight: 172 Shot: Left

Dunn is only 1 day shy of being a 2014 NHL Draft Eligible and was just recently traded to Gatineau in a QMJHL Draft Day deal... Very aggressive player who is not shy about contact and going to the traffic areas... Really took advantage of increased opportunity this season, breaking out with 25 goals... Overall game needs development but he's got some tools which are exciting.

73. LW Gabryel Paquin-Bourdreau Baie-Comeau Drakkar
Date of Birth: February 21, 1995 Height: 5.11 Weight: 167 Shot: Left

10th overall pick in the 2012 QMJHL Draft had a tremendous first year in the league finishing only behind teammate Valentin Zykov in rookie scoring... Slight centre does not play a perimeter game despite lack of size and strength... Has a lot of offensive flair and uses his 1 on 1 moves frequently, sometimes too much... Really benefitted from playing with some strong forwards this year... Will be interesting to see how he fares as the team absorbs some personnel losses up front.

74. RW Nicholas Baptiste Sudbury Wolves
Date of Birth: August 4, 1995 Height: 6.01 Weight: 189 Shot: Right

It hasn't been the smoothest of adjustments to Junior Hockey for Nicholas Baptiste, the 5th overall pick in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection... Has an awkward, wide-based, low skating angle but it does not deprive him of explosive acceleration and top-end speed... Started to show signs of his offensive potential last year as a dangerous player off the rush... Good balance between playmaking skills and scoring... Lacks natural offensive hockey sense and sometimes struggles with his decision making when he has the puck.

75. G Calvin Petersen Waterloo Blackhawks
Date of Birth: October 19, 1994 Height: 6.02 Weight: 183 Shot: Right

Peterson, a Notre Dame commit, is the other half of Waterloo's talented goaltending tandem... Very athletic goaltender who seamlessly moves around the crease and goes post-to-post... Lacks the technical polish that McAdam has but can be a big-game goaltender with a penchant for making huge saves... Will be interesting to monitor how he adjusts to NCAA hockey as his ceiling is high if he can continue to refine his technique.
