Hockey in Western New York

Part two of our look into hockey in Western New York focuses on junior hockey in the area. While the area does not feature any teams who would be considered of the major junior caliber, there are some competitive teams in the locale. Leading the way is the Buffalo Jr. Sabres who are apart of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, which is a Tier Two Jr. A league just below the OHL. The Buffalo Stars feature a team which is apart of the Empire Jr. B League, and also fields clubs in the Continental Jr Hockey League. Likewise, Maksymum Hockey also features teams that compete in the Empire Jr. B League and the Rochester Stars who are in the Eastern Jr. A Hockey League. Lastly there is also the Wheatfield Jr. Blades who are a member of the Greater Ontario Jr. B League. Here are a few player profiles on some of the players that are currently spending the season playing junior hockey in Western New York.

#12 Mitchell Eisenberg: 2/17/94, FWD, 5’-9” 160lbs

Mitchell is a 2010 Draft pick of the Erie Otters of the OHL.   As of November 22 he is tied for the team lead in goals with 7 and fourth in points with 12.  Mitchell is a native of Raleigh, North Carolina.  Mitchell has soft hands and good vision on the ice.  His goal is to advance on to the Ontario Hockey League.  2009-10:  Carolina Hurricanes U-16 (NAPHL) 20 GP, 10 G, 13 A, 23 Pts, 10 PIM   Hon. Mention All-NAPHL Team

#15 Nick Pagliacci  2/28/94,  FWD  5’-10”155lb

Nick is a native of Buffalo, NY.  He is a hard working forward and has 3 goals on the season.  Nick has a cannon for a shot and the potential to become a top face off guy.  Nicks goal is to play NCAA college hockey.

#31 Austin Willison

Austin is a native of North Tonawanda, NY.  Austin is a hard working goalie.  Austin is very competitive and always rises to the challenge in front of him.  His goal is to play NCAA hockey.

Buffalo Stars (EJHL)


# 17 Joseph Mitchell 6/20/94 FWD 5’-11” 155lbs

Joseph is hard working player on the Buffalo Stars Empire Jr. B team and most recently posted a six point weekend stint against Long Island Applecore Dec.4th & 5th , including 4 goals.

# 21 Andrew  Sturtz 9/21/94 FWD 5’-11”,202lbs

Andrew is the Buffalo Stars Empire leading scorer and point’s leader; he is a hard working and a consistent player.
